Literally hours ago I found out that I was hired as the Tam Tran Program and Outreach Fellow for the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA). One of my objectives for the job is to foster greater student and youth involvement in the APA labor movement. So, first order of business: go to APALA’s workshop on Saturday at the UCLA Labor Center, facilitated by our very own Jake Suaverdez!
Students, Organizers, and Activists,
The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) invites UCLA students and youth of all backgrounds to attend our workshop at the Downtown Labor Center to discuss the importance and relevance of issues concerning Asian Americans and Labor. Our workshop not only aims to inform youth about labor issues, but discusses the importance of how organizing for these labor issues can affect public policies which in turn can affect the Asian Pacific American community as a whole.
The Workshop will allow everyone to:
Connect labor issues with immigration, ethnicity, and current economic conditions
Inform the community of the history of APALA and the API labor movement
Create a valuable understanding of the importance of youth involvement
The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. Snacks will be provided. We hope to see you all there!
